Rehlko and Liebherr Group have partnered on capacity expansion to support accelerating data centre demand for power solutions.

The companies held a ceremony at the Liebherr-Components site in Colmar, France, marking the commencement of their continued expansion intended to meet the fast-growing demand for reliable backup power in digital infrastructure projects.

The Colmar facility, which manufactures engines for generator sets widely used in data centres, will be expanded by nearly 12,000m².

According to Liebherr, the additional space will more than double the site’s production capacity once fully operational.

The move aims to keep pace with increased needs driven by the development of hyperscale and colocation data centres supporting AI, cloud computing, and digital services.

Rehlko has emphasised that the accelerating demand for backup power stems from a global focus on securing uninterrupted operation in critical technology environments.

Rehlko president and CEO Brian Melka said “This ceremony is an important milestone for our growth strategy as we scale our capacity to support the accelerating digital backbone. As data centre demand continues to grow, customers are prioritising resilient, scalable power solutions with zero downtime.

“This expansion demonstrates our commitment to disciplined decision-making and follow-through, strengthening our ability to convert a growing backlog into long-term revenue and capture additional market share in the data centre sector while reinforcing our leadership in critical energy solutions.”

The collaboration between Rehlko and Liebherr began with the launch of the KD Series generator range in 2016 and has expanded steadily over the past decade.

In May 2025, the two companies extended their partnership to further develop engine technologies and increase support for the sector’s evolving requirements.

Rehlko stated that its focus remains on delivering a wide range of power solutions to keep pace with changes in the global data centre industry.

The company highlighted the crucial role of backup power systems in maintaining continuity and reliability as digital infrastructure continues to underpin economic activity worldwide.
