Nokia has partnered with t3 Broadband to deploy an ultra-high-capacity optical transport network for broadband operator Aureon, linking a data centre development in North Dakota to the Chicago area.
The project is designed to address surging demand for AI, cloud, and hyperscale data centre connectivity between these regions.

The new network infrastructure can scale up to 400 terabits per second, marking Aureon’s highest-capacity network connection till date.
This deployment is enabled by Nokia’s 1830 Global Express (GX) platform, Super C and L-band optical line system, and 1.2T ICE7 coherent optics.
Aureon aims for this installation to create a scalable foundation for further growth in AI infrastructure and data centre workloads.
The system expands Aureon’s capabilities by allowing delivery of transport services on a scale more often associated with hyperscale network operators.
The network’s AI-optimised design is intended to help support increasingly demanding data centre workloads and maximise fibre resource use.

Last month, Nokia introduced its AI Networking Innovation Lab, located within its Sunnyvale, California facility, to drive joint development of data centre networking solutions tailored for AI.
