Nokia has introduced its AI Networking Innovation Lab, located within its Sunnyvale, California facility, to drive joint development of data centre networking solutions tailored for AI.
The new centre is designed to facilitate collaboration with partners including AMD, Everpure, Keysight, Lenovo, Nscale, Supermicro, VIAVI, and Weka.
Access deeper industry intelligence
Experience unmatched clarity with a single platform that combines unique data, AI, and human expertise.
The lab is expected to accelerate progress in networking technologies that support large-scale AI training and real-time inference. It will enable designing, testing, and validating data centre architectures built to handle the demands of modern AI workloads.
Nokia’s new lab intends to address these challenges by providing an environment where emerging technologies can be developed, integrated, and validated in close cooperation with its global technology partners.
The initiative also includes the testing of new protocols, switching silicon, congestion management, and automation processes to meet the needs of AI-driven data centres.
The AI Networking Innovation Lab will allow partners to prototype and assess technologies across the entire networking stack, encouraging the adoption of new industry standards.
This collaborative approach includes working with a range of technology providers such as silicon manufacturers, graphics processing unit (GPU) developers, system vendors, and cloud platforms to improve compatibility and integration between various hardware and software layers.
The facility will also serve as the site for Nokia’s Validated Designs (NVD), enabling customers and partners to rigorously test data centre architectures in real-world AI scenarios.
These assessments cover failure response, congestion handling, and operational automation, allowing organisations to deploy solutions with more predictable performance and lower risk.
Nokia software product management vice president Rudy Hoebeke said: “The launch of Nokia’s AI Networking Innovation Lab marks a major milestone in our commitment to drive the next era of AI-native connectivity.
“As the industry continues to evolve with solutions like scale-across and AI-Grid, this lab is poised to accelerate AI networking technology that will not only support but optimize these emerging industry offerings.
“This centre gives our customers and partners early access to new technologies, deeper collaboration with the world’s leading AI ecosystem players, and the confidence that their networks are validated under more realistic AI conditions.”
