Details regarding partners, exact locations, or specific rollout timelines were not disclosed. The investment is part of its strategy to enter the full-stack AI market.

The planned data centres will operate alongside its existing expertise in data centre design, DevOps, AI cloud operations and software.

HCLTech outlined that demand for data centre capacity in India is increasing rapidly, driven by expansion in the digital economy, data localisation needs, and requirements for supporting graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure for AI tasks such as training and inference.

While not providing specific figures, the company referenced forecasts that suggest Indian data centre capacity could reach 5-7GW by 2030, up from 1.8GW currently, with a significant share of this growth attributed to AI data centres.

HCLTech CEO and managing director C Vijayakumar said: “The convergence of AI-led demand, supply constraints and push for digital sovereignty presents a compelling opportunity for us to emerge as a full-stack AI technology solutions provider.

“Our entry into the AI data centre space positions us to capture the full value of this opportunity, as the industry transitions from physical infrastructure to higher-value, AI-ready solutions. Our managed services and outcome-based services to our global clients would also benefit significantly from this investment.”

The company highlighted its current service portfolio, which includes data centre operations and a range of technology products for industries such as financial services, manufacturing, life sciences, technology and services, and more.
