Singapore-headquartered digital infrastructure platform DayOne has partnered with Imari City to construct a 200MW data centre campus in Saga Prefecture, Japan.
The project represents DayOne’s expansion beyond Tokyo, establishing a presence in southwestern Japan on the island of Kyushu.

The development will occupy a plot exceeding 133,000m² within the Imari East Industrial Park.
Backed by both Imari City and Saga Prefecture, the project includes 160MW of secured powered land to be deployed across multiple phases. DayOne expects the first phase of the facility to enter service in 2030.
DayOne CEO Jamie Khoo said: “Kyushu has the potential to become an important new location in Japan’s digital infrastructure landscape.
“The Imari campus brings together Kyushu’s regional advantages, the city’s forward-looking leadership, and DayOne’s experience in creating new digital infrastructure markets at scale.
“Working closely with Imari City, local partners, and the community, we intend to deliver the campus responsibly, build local capabilities, and create lasting value for Imari City, Saga Prefecture, and the wider region.”
Imari City Mayor Hironobu Fukaura said: “I would like to express my gratitude to DayOne for choosing Imari City. We welcome DayOne’s decision and are excited about the opportunities this investment will create for our economy, our businesses, and future generations.”
DayOne stated that expanding into regional locations like Kyushu addresses growing demand for AI, cloud computing, and digital services.
By adding data centre capacity outside major metropolitan hubs, the project aims to support a more geographically distributed infrastructure footprint.
This approach also seeks to bolster the resilience of Japan’s digital economy while utilising the island’s proximity to major Asian markets.
The campus is expected to create from nearly 60 to 80 permanent positions once fully operational, along with local jobs throughout its development, construction, and ongoing operations.
DayOne also noted that sustainability measures will be integrated across engineering, construction, and operational activities, focusing on resource management, energy efficiency, and reducing the project’s overall environmental effect.
Prior to this, DayOne partnered with TNB Power Generation (TNB GenCo) to explore the development of a dedicated on-site power generation solution of up to 1.5GW for a new data centre project in Selangor, located in Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
