DayOne has partnered with TNB Power Generation (TNB GenCo) to explore the development of a dedicated on-site power generation solution of up to 1.5GW for a new data centre project in Selangor, located in Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The agreement was formalised through a memorandum of understanding in Kuala Lumpur last month, with representatives from both companies in attendance.

DayOne and TNB GenCo plan to assess the feasibility of supplying a dedicated power source to meet the needs of large-scale data centre operations, including anticipated growth in AI infrastructure.
The final details of the project, including capacity, design, and implementation, will depend on further assessments, definitive agreements, and regulatory approvals.
DayOne has expanded its operations in Malaysia with established facilities in Johor and currently aims to broaden its presence into the Greater Kuala Lumpur area.
The collaboration follows earlier joint initiatives on DayOne’s campuses in Johor and participation in Malaysia’s green energy programmes, such as the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and the Green Electricity Tariff (GET).
DayOne has stated its intention to integrate on-site power generation and battery energy storage systems directly into the new data centre infrastructure.
The initiative is aligned with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap and seeks to contribute to national goals on energy resilience, more efficient power usage, and expanded adoption of renewable or lower-carbon energy solutions.
DayOne CEO Jamie Khoo said: “Malaysia is central to DayOne’s growth, and we continue to deepen our presence in Greater Kuala Lumpur as we scale to meet accelerating AI and cloud demand.
“Together with TNB, we are exploring an integrated approach that combines on-site power generation and a battery energy storage system (BESS) directly with our data centre infrastructure.
“This model is designed to add new capacity and enhance system flexibility that supports our growth while contributing to Malaysia’s energy resilience and long-term sustainability.”
DayOne has secured over 2GW of bookings globally and expects its investment in Malaysia to exceed RM28bn ($6.93bn) by the end of 2026.
The new Selangor development is part of the company’s ongoing regional expansion, adding to its campuses in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Spain, and Finland.
In June this year, DayOne announced the final closing of its Series C equity financing, drawing in total gross proceeds of $4.5bn.
