JHB2 is an upcoming facility designed with a focus on energy efficiency and water conservation.

It aims to achieve a design power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.37 and will utilise advanced water-efficient cooling technologies.

The financing is linked to transparent environmental KPIs, reinforcing AirTrunk’s stated commitment to net zero by 2030.

A consortium of 30 financial institutions, including both Malaysian and international banks, participated in the green loan agreement.

The deal includes the participation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, marking its first financing transaction with AirTrunk and establishing a long-term relationship.

The financing was coordinated by ten global banks, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, DBS Bank, ING Bank, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, Société Générale, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, and United Overseas Bank, acting as Global Coordinators.

Additional senior roles were held by CIMB Bank, Clifford Capital Credit Solutions, International Finance Corporation, National Bank of Kuwait, and Standard Chartered Bank.

AirTrunk stated that savings generated from the transaction’s margin will be channelled into social initiatives in Malaysia.

AirTrunk vice-president and Malaysia country head Pei Jet (PJ) Lim said: “This green financing demonstrates how digital infrastructure can be developed responsibly. As one of the largest issuers of sustainable finance in the global data centre industry, we will continue to invest in infrastructure that prioritises energy and water efficiency while ensuring the benefits extend beyond our campuses through meaningful contribution to support local communities.”

AirTrunk’s financing aligns with the company’s wider sustainability approach, which encompasses investment in energy-efficient infrastructure, renewable energy use, water management, and local community engagement throughout the Asia-Pacific and Middle East.
