Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI) and Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS) have launched the MECH-iC chiller platform designed for hyperscale and colocation data centres in the US.
The magnetic-bearing air-cooled system is available in 350 tonne (1.2MW) and 500 tonne (1.75MW) models and is intended to address the cooling needs of data centres deploying AI and higher-density compute infrastructure.

According to the companies, the MECH-iC platform can operate in ambient temperatures up to 125ºF and delivers higher cooling capacity within a footprint that is around 25% smaller than similar systems.
The introduction comes as data centres face increasing pressure to manage space, water, and power requirements while supporting new workloads for AI and cloud services.
MEHITS group IT cooling product marketing manager Marco Bettiol said: “We are excited to strengthen the Mitsubishi Electric critical cooling offering for the US data centre market.
“MECH-iC was developed specifically for the operational realities of modern data centres and AI factories, where power and water efficiency, footprint, and reliability are increasingly critical.
“It also aligns with Mitsubishi Electric’s holistic approach to sustainability by optimising energy performance and advancing key metrics such as PUE and WUE.”
MECH-iC is optimised for supply water temperatures between 65°F and 75°F. It uses oil-free magnetic bearing compressors, which are aimed at increasing efficiency and reliability while lessening the need for maintenance.
The chiller applies patented R.E.D. Cooler technology, also developed by MEHITS, which intends to optimise thermodynamic performance.
It offers fast restart capability, potentially recovering in less than three minutes following power interruptions.
MECH-iC employs R515B refrigerant, which the company states delivers efficiency, sustainability, and safety while retaining an A1 non-flammable safety status.
Mitsubishi Electric Power Products is headquartered in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, and acts as a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
MEHITS operates as part of the Mitsubishi Electric Group, with a focus on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and data centre cooling solutions produced across multiple international sites.
