Hyperscale Data’s subsidiary Omnipresent Robotics has started installation of OPR-R2 robots at the company’s AI data centre in Michigan, US.

The first OPR-R2 robot was assembled at the site, marking the launch of a programme aimed at large-scale visual data collection and physical AI training.

Omnipresent Robotics has an order in place for 143 units. Up to 100 of them are currently expected to be installed at the Michigan facility, although precise deployment timelines may be affected by manufacturing and supply chain factors.

The company indicated that the remaining robots are intended for allocation to partner pilot programmes, with further information expected in the coming months.

Within its Michigan data centre, Hyperscale Data is developing a dedicated robotics facility.

The company expects this space to enable the deployment and operation of OPR-R2 robots, the collection and processing of training data, performance of real-world physical tasks, and related AI development work.

The OPR-R2 robots are designed to complete routine physical tasks while gathering visual, spatial, movement, and interaction data.

This information is scheduled for processing and validation for use in training advanced AI foundation models, including large language models, vision-language-action systems, robotics frameworks, and multimodal AI systems.

All data generated by the robots will be stored and handled within the US, and Hyperscale Data does not plan for this data to leave the country.

Hyperscale Data CEO Will Horne said: “The arrival of the first OPR-R2 robot in Michigan represents the beginning of an important real-world data-generation programme. These robots will perform physical tasks and generate the visual, spatial and interaction data required to train increasingly advanced AI models.

“We are developing approximately 100,000ft² within our Michigan data centre campus specifically for Omnipresent Robotics and this physical AI initiative. We believe this dedicated facility can become an important centre for generating, processing and warehousing high-quality physical-world data for large language models, multimodal AI systems and other advanced AI applications.”

The company previously disclosed that the dedicated robotics facility and its expansion may support the creation of over 500 jobs during the next three years as the programme progresses.
