Equinix has confirmed the global expansion of its Fabric Geo Zones solution, a network-level approach designed to address enterprise data sovereignty requirements across hybrid and multicloud environments.
The new capability will operate across five continents, with initial availability in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, the Uk and the US, and European Union access planned for June.

The development addresses the increasing need for enterprises to comply with jurisdictional regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).
This need has grown as hybrid and multicloud environments have become more common.
With the introduction of Geo Zones, Equinix seeks to support organisations that need to ensure data remains inside pre-defined geographic boundaries, even during network failover or congestion.
Traditional networks have often prioritised performance and availability over regulatory constraints, sometimes causing data to leave intended jurisdictions.
Geo Zones enables routing control at the network layer, distinct from solutions that operate only within individual clouds or as software overlays.
Equinix digital interconnection vice president Arun Dev said: “Sovereignty can’t be a setting you configure inside a single cloud. Global enterprises must enforce sovereignty at the network layer, across every cloud, provider and path simultaneously.
“Equinix Fabric Geo Zones is the only solution that enforces geographic boundaries as a property of the network itself. Traffic either flows along compliant paths or it’s blocked.
“That’s why enterprises across industries trust Equinix to move data across clouds without compromising sovereignty.”
The expansion of Fabric Geo Zones builds on Equinix’s fabric, which spans 77 metropolitan areas and forms part of its wider investment strategy.
The service is available as a premium feature in certain Equinix packages, enabling automatic adherence to jurisdictional rules and supporting compliance for sectors such as finance, healthcare and government.
