DigitalBridge Group and Japan Extensive Infrastructure (JEXI) have established a new colocation data centre platform, Nippon Gateway Infrastructure (NGI), to support the digital infrastructure requirements of enterprises throughout Japan.

This data centre was formed by the respective affiliates of DigitalBridge and JEXI.

NGI begins operations with a portfolio of data centre facilities acquired from NEC, located in the Greater Tokyo and Greater Osaka regions.

NEC will retain role as a strategic customer, while NGI has stated its intention to broaden its enterprise platform in future.

NGI’s leadership team includes Hiroshi Ogasawara, appointed as president and CEO.

Ogasawara has held senior posts at SCSK, SCSK NEC Data Center Management, and AT TOKYO, contributing significant experience in technology services and digital infrastructure.

Masato Hoshino will serve as executive vice president and chief operating officer, having previously held roles as Asia head at Colt Technology Services.

Yoshiaki Fujimori, who is currently Oracle Japan chairman, has taken on the role of chairman at NGI.

Ogasawara said: “NGI aims to become a leading enterprise-focused colocation data centre platform in Japan, supporting customers’ growing requirements for secure, reliable, and scalable digital infrastructure.

“NGI intends to pursue growth through strategic acquisitions, expansion of existing facilities, and selective greenfield developments in key markets across Japan.”

DigitalBridge is a global alternative asset manager focusing on digital infrastructure, with operations in several regions, while JEXI is an investment advisory firm in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group specialising in domestic infrastructure within Japan.
