DayOne, in partnership with Cortical Labs and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS Medicine), has launched a biological data centre prototype.

The project is intended to advance the development of biological computing alongside traditional silicon-based data centre infrastructure.

Attendees at the launch observed a live demonstration of Cortical Labs’ CL1 biological computing system and toured the NUS Medicine laboratory where the initiative is being hosted.

The project introduces wetware-based computing which aligns with Singapore’s sustainability objectives outlined in the country’s Green Data Center Roadmap. The plan seeks to raise energy efficiency standards in digital infrastructure as the country seeks to expand AI capacity under increasingly strict energy and environmental requirements.

The deployment consists of a 20-unit CL1 biological computing system, described as the first independently operated biologically integrated server rack globally.

This infrastructure enables research on scaling AI compute with significantly reduced power consumption compared to conventional digital servers.

The effort leverages NUS Medicine’s expertise in neurobiology, Cortical Labs’ hardware, and DayOne’s data centre operational experience.

Research areas for the prototype include neuro-inspired AI, biomedical modelling, drug discovery, and neurological disease research.

DayOne’s local developments include the SG1 data centre, scheduled to be operational in early 2027, and a Global Operations Command Center.

DayOne operates across nine Asia Pacific and European markets and reports securing approximately 2.1GW of bookings since its inception.
