Vantage Data Centers and Nebius have signed an agreement for deploying high-density, Nvidia-powered AI infrastructure at the CWL1 campus located in Newport, Wales, UK.

The arrangement marks the first publicly announced commercial capacity commitment within the South Wales AI Growth Zone, according to information released by the companies.

Under the terms of the agreement, Nebius will lease high-density capacity from Vantage’s Newport facility in order to support AI training, inference, agentic AI, and enterprise AI workloads.

The infrastructure is expected to be used by a range of organisations including enterprises, researchers, startups, and public sector bodies seeking domestic access to advanced AI compute resources.

This deployment forms part of Nebius’ wider expansion plan in the UK. In June, the company outlined a commitment of roughly £1.7bn ($1.95bn) to develop capacity across four domestic sites.

Nebius’ UK infrastructure programme will leverage the latest full-stack, end-to-end DSX AI factory reference design from Nvidia, as well as support the UK Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan.

The CWL1 data centre campus has operated since 2010. It provides the power, scale, and connectivity required for high-density AI workloads, serving a mix of hyperscale, enterprise, and public sector customers.

Vantage states that CWL1’s electricity use is matched with 100% certified renewable energy.

Recent facilities on campus are equipped with a closed-loop cooling system using air-cooled chillers and ‘free cooling’ under suitable ambient conditions, a design intended to reduce energy and operational water consumption.

The Newport site is included in a broader investment programme by Vantage Data Centers, which spans South Wales and aims to deliver over 1GW of AI-ready capacity across Newport, Bridgend, and Bro Tathan.

Vantage Data Centers EMEA president David Howson said: “This is an important milestone for South Wales and for the UK’s AI infrastructure ambitions. Nebius is scaling AI cloud infrastructure in the UK at a time when demand for domestic compute capacity continues to accelerate.

“Vantage’s Newport campus provides the scale, connectivity and operational excellence needed to support that growth, and we’re proud to help establish South Wales as a leading destination for AI investment.”
