Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) has greenlit six key projects totalling Bt958bn ($29.6bn), with a significant share set to go towards data centre expansion across the country.

The approvals, made during a BOI board meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas, include three data-focused digital infrastructure projects and several initiatives in energy and resource-based industries.

The largest of all the investments is from TikTok System (Thailand) at Bt842bn ($25bn).

TikTok’s project will involve adding more servers and scaling up data storage and processing facilities across Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao Province. These efforts are expected to meet increasing demand for digital services and bolster Thailand’s position as a regional digital infrastructure hub.

Other approved data centre investments include Bt46bn ($1.4bn) from Skyline Data Center and Cloud Services, part of UAE-based DAMAC Group. The planned Chachoengsao facility is designed to support a 200MW IT load.

A third data centre scheme that has been approved will be executed by Bridge Data Centres IIO (Thailand) with an investment of Bt24.6bn ($746m). To be developed in Chonburi, the project is expected to support a 134MW IT load.

BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said: “Amid continuing global volatility, investment in Thailand’s digital and advanced technology sectors continues to grow, reflecting investor confidence in the country’s potential as a regional technology hub.

“For Thailand to capture this new investment cycle, we must be ready not only with investment incentives, but also with sufficient power, clean-energy options, skilled talent, deeper supply chains and a reliable facilitation system that allows projects to move quickly from approval to operation.”

In March 2026, Microsoft announced it would invest more than $1bn in cloud and AI data centre infrastructure, along with ongoing operations across Thailand.

Earlier, in January, Thailand BOI gave the green light to seven new data centre developments worth a combined $3.1bn. Most of these will be built in and around Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Rayong and Bangkok.

Over the course of 2025, the BOI logged 36 data centre proposals altogether, with pledged capital of more than $23.1bn. The planned sites span major provinces such as Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Rayong and Samut Prakan.
