The initiative signals Garrett’s expansion into industrial thermal management, with commercial production of the new data centre cooling equipment scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.

Garrett Motion president and CEO Olivier Rabiller said: “As AI and digital infrastructure grow, the need for efficient and reliable cooling is becoming increasingly critical.

“Our high-speed, oil-free centrifugal compressor technology helps deliver greater energy efficiency, reliability and system performance. Together with Multistack, we look forward to advancing the next generation of sustainable cooling solutions.”

Intended for industrial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and cooling deployments, the compressor operates at speeds exceeding 90,000RPM.

The mechanism merges high-speed centrifugal compression with oil-free air foil bearing technology, designed to lower maintenance requirements while boosting operational efficiency and system reliability.

It also accommodates next-generation refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP).

The compact unit is over 50% smaller and 80% lighter than traditional alternatives, reducing total cost of ownership alongside providing sustainability advantages.

Garrett holds a 70-year operational history across automotive turbocharging, off-highway machinery, marine craft, and power generation, where its turbo systems have targeted reductions in engine size, fuel usage, and carbon emissions.

Alongside electric propulsion and hydrogen fuel cell compressors, the business oversees six research and development centres, 13 manufacturing sites, and over 8,700 staff across 20 countries.

Multistack supplies modular chiller and cooling units across commercial, industrial, and data centre environments.

The manufacturer focuses on developing electrified, energy-efficient HVAC equipment designed to support the broader transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable power sources through reliable, redundant design practices.
