DigiCo Infrastructure has awarded SHAPE Australia a contract valued at A$800m ($555.6m) to expand the SYD1 data centre campus in Sydney, NSW.

The development will deliver a 52MW capacity increase, taking the facility’s overall capacity to 88MW alongside its existing 16MW and a recently finished 20MW Stage 1 upgrade.

The fixed-price lump-sum design & construct contract expands SHAPE’s current work in hand to more than A$1.4bn.

This project is expected to make a material contribution to SHAPE’s revenue during the 2027 and 2028 financial years (FY27 and FY28).

Site activity is scheduled to begin immediately under SHAPE’s appointment as head contractor.

Rather than developing a greenfield facility, the project will repurpose an existing data centre asset that holds State Significant Development Approval, secured water access, and approved electrical grid capacity.

SHAPE CEO Peter Marix-Evans said: “This is an important milestone for SHAPE and reflects the continued execution of our growth and diversification strategy. Securing this contract is a strong endorsement of the quality and reliability we demonstrated through Stage 1 at SYD1.

“Being engaged early through an ECI process allowed our team to work collaboratively with DigiCo to scope, design and price this next phase with precision and confidence ahead of the formal award.

“The award also reflects the strength of the long-term client relationships we seek to build. Consistently delivering for our clients creates the opportunity to deepen those relationships and support them as their needs evolve. Data centres are an important strategic growth sector for SHAPE.”

DigiCo selected SHAPE following its delivery of the earlier 20MW upgrade at the Sydney location.

The project’s pricing, delivery schedule, design, and scope were established via an Early Contractor Involvement process prior to the contract award.
