XKL has announced new data centre interconnect (DCI) capabilities for its MediaLight product family, aiming to provide low-latency connectivity for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads within regional facilities.

The MediaLight Xponder and Muxponder units, which are housed in a 1RU form factor, are designed to deliver sub-5 microsecond (us) optical transport and directly connect compute clusters while bypassing multi-hop routing paths that can add latency.

The company states that as distributed AI training and real-time inference activities increase across campus and metropolitan data centres, network infrastructure can become constrained by packet jitter and queueing delays caused by conventional routing approaches.

According to XKL, its MediaLight systems avoid packet-layer overhead, instead provide direct Layer 1 dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) links between key resources.

This method is positioned to help keep graphics processing unit (GPU) clusters in continuous use and reduce idle times during transfers of large datasets.

XKL sales and marketing director Casey Inman said: “Distributed AI workloads cannot afford the latency penalties and packet queueing inherent in traditional routing architectures.

“MediaLight solves this directly at Layer 1. By delivering deterministic, high-capacity transport in a compact form factor, we ensure regional AI infrastructure operates at peak computational efficiency.”

The MediaLight systems support soft-configurable 100G (QSFP28) and 400G (QSFP-DD) optical transport modes and are built to work within strict power and thermal constraints found in colocation environments.

The solution provides uncompressed, bit-transparent connectivity over both dark fibre and third-party open line systems.

Management is facilitated through standard command-line interface (CLI) and open management information base (MIB) frameworks, allowing integration with existing monitoring tools and rapid deployment.

XKL confirmed the MediaLight product family is now available to support AI interconnect and enterprise installations.
